How would you describe yourself?
This is one of those questions that is are really hard for me to answer. So, I asked my husband...his response, "Passionate about my family and products. Fun, but stern. A people person and a cool mommy."
How long have you been involved in your business? I started AJz Delights in October of 2008.
Why did you choose your particular business?
I'm able to do the thing I love the most, while staying home with my son and make a little $ while doing it. When I used to do craft fairs and boutiques, seeing people's faces when they come to my table would fill me with joy because it's always something they haven't seen before and is very unique. One of the best and funniest comments I've ever heard from a customer about my books were that they looked like scrapbooks on crack. I took that as a huge compliment.
What keeps you motivated? My family definitely keeps me motivated, especially my husband's support. He has always been my personal cheerleader and had actullay encouraged me to start this adventure of my life. I think that without his encouragement, I wouldn't be where I am today.
Tell us a little about your family.
I've been married to my wonderful husband for 5 years now and have a 3 year old son.
How do you prioritize family and your business? This is one of the toughest challenges I face daily trying to manage my time between my family and work. I definitely am a mother first, so it's hard to work when you have a child who is constantly wanting to play with you. I do most of my work at night when everyone is asleep. I'm a night owl anyways so it works out for everyone.
Where do you see yourself in 5yrs?
I hope to be healthy and happy and still enjoy what I am doing.
Biggest life lesson learned? You can't control everything that happens in your life. I used to be the kind of person where I needed to control every aspect of my life and stress out over things that were out of my control. Everything happens for a reason and I have learned to trust in the Lord and not lean on my own understanding.
Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
I learned that you can't please everyone's taste and you should take any unfavorable comments with a grain of salt. Especially, if you are starting out in your business, keep your head up and move on.
What is your secret to success?
To love what you do. Because once you stop enjoying it, it becomes "work" and it'll start to show in your products.
All Entrepreneurs encounter bad days. How do you handle yours? I actually craft, which is such a huge stress reliever for me or go to
Disneyland with my family.
What was your sweetest success story? I made an album that spelled out HOPE for a cancer survivor and she had emailed me that when she got to the last page and saw the "I am a Survivor" embellishment, she cried. That really touched my heart.
How do you relax?
I try to find time to go out with the girls and have
a relaxing night out. It helps revive me for the next day.
